Exfoliators play an important role in skincare. Exfoliation, often referred to as “scrubbing”, involves the removal of dead and dry skin cells from the surface of the skin. This mechanical process is usually accomplished by using a skincare product containing granules that actively rub against the skin.
There are two types of exfoliators: mechanical, which use a granular action, and chemical, which use alpha-hydroxy acids. These scrubs are typically used after cleansing and before applying moisturizers, hydrating serums, and anti-ageing creams. The result of regular exfoliation is skin that is smoother, healthier, and younger-looking. It also helps improve the effectiveness of other skincare products by removing dead skin cells and allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin.
